Use One System

You are here: Home \ blog \ Use One System

I speak to ALOT of people in any given week. Some are individuals such as family and friends, some are small business owners, some are BIG business owners, and many happen to be martial arts school owners and instructors. They wind up being (not all)  categorized into 2 main categories. People who either do not follow any sort of rhyme or reason in their thinking or process and those who have MANY different “systems” they subscribe to, but really wind up conflicting using them all at once.

Well, it is safe to say that those who follow absolutely NO GUIDELINES are often aimless wandering toward a goal they most likely will never attain. However, some may say, “well you should have several options and not just use one”. In fact many people do this so they could pick out what is best and then come up with the ULTIMATE SYSTEM after experimenting with so many. Well then let me ask you this. Is the point of choosing a system, let’s say opening a subway sandwich store, supposed to have all the guesswork and integration for operations do the work for you since it was already done? After all, you may want to be a pioneer and combine say Starbucks coffee with McDonald’s operating system to make the best hybrid business on the planet. I will repeat, if you choose a system, why would you reinvent the wheel? I must admit no one business is perfect to model but if you wish to at least replicate the success, you must do so to the letter. To go out and change this and that would only bring about CONFUSION to the end goal.

I have trained alot of martial artists who would get some fundamentals from me and then go out and try and do things on their own. I guess they just want to be independent. Maybe they could make more money by calling something their own. Possibly. By if you were learning something and just got single success, that doesn’t mean you “KNOW HOW TO DO IT” or even will be able to produce the same results or better over time. You see I believe that when you initally learn something, you are only introduced to it. Then you need it to be mentored so the flaws can be distinguished. Any modifications must be implemented so that you can track it. After all, if you can’t measure it how can you gauge the success?

I am not sure if you are one of the people who love to live without a plan. Maybe you are the one that likes to “learn” something only to just change it to “your way”. But take this lesson, until you can truly UNDERSTAND something, you may not be able to change it. The late Bruce Lee of course said to discard what is useless, however if you do not know how to use a socket wrench doesn’t mean they are obsolete or useless, you just need to learn HOW to use it. Let’s all promise to learn something properly before we discard its use and then try and build a better mouse trap. It could save you money and time in the long run.
