What Ever Happened to Good Customer Service?

I was in a business roundtable and was recently asked when was the last time I received “exceptionally” good customer service where I was treated beyond expectation. The problem was I couldn’t remember and there were very few people who could either. The next question was, When was the last time I received BAD customer service. The group immediately gave their horror stories. The lesson here was even though you may do your best, I often times doesn’t get recognition, but do something mediocre or worse and you become “infamous”. You could eat at a restaurant a thousand times, but get one dirty glass and the establishment becomes the worst in town. In fact I just got text by my great friend Sensei Nick Dougherty who had to share the horrible customer service at his local CVS. Now I live 2 hours away from this facility but I will remember to NOT go there (GPS the Walgreens).

Our actions must be looked at similarly. We could be all smiles, but one day you get up on the wrong side of the bed and then you meet someone for the first time. You have now created a reputation for yourself that you didn’t rightfully earn.  So be cautious. You never know who is observing your actions and judging your words. I am not saying it is right to judge, I am merely stating that it will happen sometimes. So don’t forget to always greet people like it is the first impression they will ever have of you, because it just may be!

PS – Have a GREAT DAY!
